Creative Party Theme Ideas for Children

Looking for some unusual ideas for your child's birthday party. Here's a few to get you thinking, once the ideas start to come you might come up with some surprising or interesting ideas yourself.

Beach or Luau party - no, this doesn't mean that you actually have to take them all to the beach! You can create your own "beach" in your home with Hawaiian skirts, surf dudes, tropical t-shirts, and plenty of sun and beach themed drinks and food.

Craft ideas - kids love to make things and this is one easy way to keep them busy! Suitable for older children, this is a great way of spending time with friends. Forget about party gift bags to take home, they simply take home what they've made.

Dinosaur - either have children dressing up as dinosaurs or as explorers trying to find them. This could be a great outdoors party with plenty of wild animals and games to keep them busy.

Disney Movie - kids often want to copy the hero of the latest Disney movie. At the time of writing "Cars" is the hottest Disney film to be released, and a party themed around that is likely to be a real hit.

Princess - this is a party that young girls will love. Follow it up with a slumber party for her friends and you'll be her friend for ever! More suitable for younger children, the girls will have a wonderful time choosing their costume and dressing up as a fairy tale princess.

Sports party - ideal for young and energetic children aged 6 and above. Playing football or basketball will keep them occupied having fun whilst you get the cakes and food ready.

TV or film character inspired - whether it's Superman or Batman - ask kids to come dressed as their favourite character

Whatever theme you choose, plan in plenty of time to:

* make or order a birthday cake

* create and send invitations

* organise games and prizes

* get plenty of help for the day!

And don't forget to plan a relaxing day so that you can put your feet up and have a well-earned rest.
