How to Visit Hawaii on a Budget
By: Oliver Tani
Your vacation to the Hawaiian Islands should be relaxing from start to finish. This includes finding the best deals, because let's face it, you don't want to be thinking about how big of a hit your bank account just took or how much you just put on your credit card when you're living it up in Paradise. The great thing about Hawaii is that the best things to do when you're there are free! Let's explore some options into enjoying our 50th state at a great price!

Getting There - This is generally going to be the most expensive part, but there are always deals that you can find to help cut down on costs. First off, you should be flexible with your dates as the weather in Hawaii is always nice. There are no particular times of the year where it would be too hot or too cold. Even if it's in the low 90's and a bit humid, there's always that cool ocean breeze. Also, keep in mind that if you buy your airline tickets at least a few months in advance, you're going to save a lot of money versus waiting a couple of weeks before vacation time. However, if you do wait until the last minute or tend to be a "spur of the moment" type of person, most airlines have "last minute" deals on tickets. This is more often than not going to be some sort of weekend special, so if you happen to find something, jump on it. As an added bonus, you could even play it off as a total surprise for a loved one!

Where to Stay - The majority of the hotels in Hawaii, especially in Waikiki are going to be a bit expensive, though not all. There are some hotels which don't have the big hotel "brand name" that are just as nice. The fact of the matter is, if you're spending all your time in a hotel in Hawaii, then you're not seeing Hawaii for all its glory. Rather than spending a lot of money on a fancy hotel room, find a deal for inexpensive lodging on one of the many classified sites, so you can spend all your time and money traveling the beautiful island instead.

Things to Do - When you think of Hawaii, most people think of the beach. That's where I spend most of my time when I'm there as it's not only free, but is also relaxing and fun! Go down to Hanauma Bay and go snorkeling, kick back on the sand of Waikiki beach and get a nice tan. If shopping is your thing, you can always find great deals on Hawaiian trinkets and souvenirs at the International Marketplace in Waikiki.
