Choosing the Perfect Makeup Brush
By: Isabel Anderson
As with any type of painting, the success in executing a good facial makeup lies greatly in the tools used to apply the different colours. Some women are skilled at using their bare fingers to apply cosmetics, but the best makeup brushes will certainly deliver the better results at the right corners.

The most basic makeup brush that every woman should have in her makeup set is the powder brush. It is a full brush and will be the largest among you set.It is designed to evenly apply loose makeup powder to the face. Upward and twirling strokes against the face is an effective way to use in the application of loose powder. In this technique you will avoid uneven caking of the powder on the skin.

Another brush that is also very helpful in makeup application is the foundation brush. The foundation brush has flat but soft bristles, and is used to apply cream based or liquid foundation. A soft foundation brush may be naturally made from sable fur, or from a smooth washable synthetic material.

The Kabuki brush is a thick yet soft brush effective in the application of heavy makeup. In using the kabuki brush it speeds up the process because a thick layer of makeup is applied rather than just one thin layer at a time.Th Kabuki brush is originated from the Japanese theatres. The traditional Japanese plays showcase the expressive artistry of Japanese kabuki makeup. In the present times, kabuki brushes are gaining a following in parallel with the popularity of the mineral based makeup. This kind of brush has coarse bristles that can easily pick up loose, powdered minerals and that can conveniently set the mineral foundation onto the skin with a buffing action.

Concealer brushes are used only in concealer application. Concealers are used to hide skin imperfections such as skin discolouration, zits and rough edges. A concealer brush should come in the right form and weight. A tapered square head with flat firm brushes is the most important when choosing the perfect concealer brush. This part of the brush is used for under the eye areas. Tapered, round brushes on the other side of the brush should be used to cover blemishes that tend to appear in other facial zones. Concealer brushes should have long brushes for flexibility in under the eye makeup application and they should have a reasonable weight to place the right pressure without straining the hands. First dab the blemish spot with the concealer brush and then blend well using precise, short strokes.

A perfect blusher blush should have a full head of slightly tapered brushes for even and natural distribution of blush pigments. The small brushes that often comes with the blush are oftentimes too hard bristled that they pick up more pigments than necessary. Naturally blend the blush pigment into the skin tone by upwardly sweeping the blusher blush from the cheek mound up to the hairline.

Use the eyebrow brush to take care of the final touches of defining the brows.
